In a baccarat game with the standard eight-deck configuration, the Banker wins 45.86% of the time, while the Player wins only 44.62% of hands. Even with a 5% commission on successful Banker bets, this slight edge makes the Banker bet the one with the lowest 1.06% house edge.

Banker: The Small Edge that Survives the Commission
Unsurprisingly, in the long-run math of baccarat, small differences in win probability matter quite a lot. The Banker sees wins on 45.86% of all hands, compared to 44.62% for the Player. With 9.52% of hands landing in a Tie, the odds mean Banker and Player both see wins on slightly less than half of all hands.
The 5% commission on winning Banker bets narrows that gap but does not close it: Banker carries a 1.06% house edge, Player 1.24%.
Why the Player Cannot “Make a Move”
Some new baccarat players read the Banker’s edge as a choice point and press to make a "move" by betting on the Player.
But in baccarat, the dealer (Banker) and the Player (bettors’ side) follow fixed card draw protocols. The Player draws a third card on points of 0-5 and not on 6 or 7. If the Player stands, so does the Banker, and the hand is scored. If the Player draws, the Banker draws or stands according to a different, but still fixed draw chart.
For example, when the Banker has a total of 5, it draws a third card unless Player's third card is 4, 5, 6, or 7. When the Banker's total is 6, it draws only on a Player third card of 6 or 7.
The game thus has no decision points; it is much like a roulette spin. The only bettor-to-card-policy decision is where to place a best-guess bet, not how to drive a hand to victory.
Tie is the Trap Bet
The real trap is the Tie bet’s punitively high 14.36% house edge. Because few hands result in a Tie (just 9.52% of hands), the generous 8:1 payout still doesn't equalize the edge much.
