Whether you are just starting out with slots or an experienced player, you may have heard the term RTP but be unclear exactly what it means. RTP, or Return to Player, is the percentage of all wagers returned to players over the long run. A 96% RTP, for instance, means the game pays back an average of £96 from every £100 wagered, with the remaining 4% taken as the house edge.

RTP stands for Return to Player. For slot games, it is the percentage of all money wagered that is paid back to players over millions of spins. If a game has an RTP of 96%, for example, that means the game pays back an average £96 for every £100 wagered, with the house taking the remaining 4% as a margin.
Not a Session Prediction, but a Long-Term Statistical Average
RTP is a long-term statistical average calculated over millions of theoretical spins. Game developers determine RTP by simulating the game across billions of virtual spins. The resulting percentage is certified by an independent testing laboratory before the game is publicly released.
While RTP is a key figure, it does not predict the outcome of any individual session for a player. A slot could return more or less than its listed RTP over short play periods. It is the long-term statistical average that matters.
Finding the RTP in the Info Screen
The RTP for a slot is always shown within the game itself, usually in the info or help screen. This screen can normally be accessed by clicking a menu icon (like a burger, cog, or a small "i") usually found in one of the screen corners.
Once in the info screen, scroll through until you see a list of the theme's paytable values. The RTP will be listed at the end of this information section, maybe in its own sub-section. This is the player's definitive RTP for this loaded version of the game, not a generic headline figure.
Why RTP Can Vary by Game Version
Providers often produce a single game title in several RTP configurations, with the casino or slot lobby determining which version is run for its players. Some sites deploy a range of RTP versions, and will indicate this with figures showing a range, rather than a single line.
This means the same named game may have a different RTP depending on which operator or section of the site it appears on. The best and most reliable RTP, then, is the one shown in the info panel of the game as it appears in that particular place.
